Indigenous Accelerator
Within One Child Every Child (OCEC), the Indigenous Accelerator team is working to educate, connect, and advance systemic change for the health and wellbeing of all children on these lands that we now call Canada. In education, the team offers workshops, book studies, guest presentations, and experiential and land-based learning opportunities. The hope is for non-Indigenous researchers, staff, and trainees to better understand settler-colonialism and the truth that all researchers in Canada are in relationship (i.e., implicated) with Indigenous families and these lands.
As connect, the Indigenous Accelerator team meets one-on-one with settler researchers to facilitate engagement with Indigenous families and communities in good, community-based, and children-centered ways. Conversations can include ways of approaching Elders or First Nations Health Directors, budgeting for community-engagement with families, creating tailored Indigenous education plans, and beyond.
Lastly, the Indigenous Ways Accelerator collaborates with OCEC’s Indigenous researchers for systemic change that widens institutional practices and structures to better include Indigenous ways of knowing, being, doing, and connecting. The Indigenous Accelerator is guided by Indigenous values and principles—including relationality, reciprocity, respect, and interconnectedness—because we believe these ways lead us to thriving children.
